Concept
This series is inspired by a lifetime of walking. From my childhood in the rain forest environment of Horco Molle, my outings to paint landscapes “au plein air” during the workshops of my master Luis Lobo de la Vega and my athletic trail walks. All of these allowed me to establish a deep connection with the landscape that constitutes my everyday environment and is part of my affective memory.
The landscape lives within me.
The phrase “Ambulo ergo sum” (through walking I exist) quoted by De Vries essentially reflects what inspires my work.
While walking along the trails dodging roots, my eyes turn up to the treetops, where I see patches of green, of sky and of light, trunks and branches like arteries forming a network, a living tissue that contains me, hugs me and gives me shelter. In the midst of that apparent chaos, without plains and with overlapping shapes and colors, I look for order, meaning and harmony.
The Landscapes series is made up of a multitude of images from the intricate landscapes of the Yungas jungle to the stark and synthetic landscapes of hills and grasslands.
